WATER CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENT

CHECK DAM AT TANACHIYA, DAHOD DISTRICT

Check dams are small barriers built across the direction of water flow on shallow rivers and streams for the purpose of water harvesting. The major environmental benefit is the replenishment of nearby groundwater reserves and wells. The water entrapped by the dam is primarily intended for use in irrigation during the monsoon and later during the dry season. It is also used for livestock and domestic needs. GACL Foundation Trust in partnership with N M Sadguru Water and Development Foundation renovated & rejuvenated Tanachiya Government Check- Dam in Dahod Taluka, Gujarat. Original capacity rejuvenated of 4.00 mcft and area brought under irrigation is 100 acres for 36 households. Sustainable Development Goals covered: 02 Zero Hunger, 10 Reduced Inequalities, 13 Climate Action.

RAINWATER HARVESTING PROJECT

Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) systems not only help in water augmentation in terms of groundwater recharge or storage but also help in tackling/mitigating waterlogging and flood control. It may also avert the water crisis. GFT developed Rain Water Harvesting systems in 20 Government Primary Schools in Narmada District and 10 Government Secondary Schools in Bharuch District with the objective of water conservation as well as to teach school children about environmental sustainability and water conservation. This Project is implemented by Shri Brahma Samaj Seve Trust, Narmada and District Administration, Bharuch.
